Licensed Professional Counselor

Dr. Arras Khaledi

I chose to get a PhD in counseling because of my desire to help others, and my continuous drive to learn and grow. Therapy was essential to me as a teenager, then as a young adult, and now as a middle-aged adult. I have always found it to be a powerful tool in allowing me to process my thoughts and feelings, both about my past and my future. As a result, I chose to become a therapist, to provide the same support and guidance to the people I work with!

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas with three years of independent clinical experience and over ten years of experience in human services, case management, vocational rehabilitation services, and working at inpatient and outpatient clinical therapy offices. My broad background allows me to offer comprehensive counseling services that meet a variety of needs.

I have a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Ohio University, a masters degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health counseling from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a bachelors of science degree in psychology from North Carolina State University.

I utilize a variety of clinical approaches including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Person Centered Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Internal Family Systems Therapy. I believe the therapeutic alliance is central to allow true healing and change. Through my counseling services, I work with children, adolescents, adults and older adults. Due to a recent move to Austin, Tx., I’m now meeting with clients virtually, offering the convenience and flexibility as a virtual counselor.

Get to Know Dr. Khaledi

  1. I became a therapist because therapy played a meaningful role in my life, first as a teenager and later as a young adult. Growing up, I watched countless therapy-focused movies in American media and often found myself thinking, “I want to do that someday.” That inspiration stayed with me, and ultimately led me to pursue a career in therapy, helping others the way therapy once helped me.

  2. I measure success in therapy through the success stories of my clients. I see myself and my clients as a team, and once we identify our therapy goals, I use my knowledge and expertise to guide them toward meaningful progress. Watching clients grow and achieve their goals is the heart of my work. Their success stories are what motivate me as a therapist and remind me why I’m so grateful to do what I do.

  3. One of the primary areas I focus on with clients is lifestyle. As someone who practices what I preach, I emphasize the core pillars of health: regular exercise, meaningful social activities, intentional relaxation, quality sleep, and nutritious eating. These elements serve as our natural medicines, and whenever possible, they should be prioritized as part of a long-term wellness routine.

  4. I lift weights, do one hour of cardio each day, and make time for social activities like attending meetups, going to the movies, or spending time with friends and family. I also dedicate part of my free time to studying therapy and mental-health literature through books, podcasts, and lectures to continue learning and growing.

  5. I hope that clients can take away at least one meaningful piece of insight or information from each counseling session, something simple and supportive that they can easily implement in their day-to-day routines to improve their overall well-being.

  6. I usually do a lot of asking questions and listening to gather information, then once I have a full understanding of the presenting problems, I try to identify easy solutions that could help a person’s quality of life improve overall.

  7. Therapy is a lot about the vibe between the therapist and the client. The client should feel comfortable to open up to the therapist and the therapist should agree that they can be helpful to the client. The therapist is not necessarily qualified to provide guidance without significant information provided by the client about their unique life experience.

  8. I try to focus on what the client needs at that specific time and I try to provide at least one piece of valuable insight to a client each session. If I feel I was insightful without being too advice-giving during the session, in my opinion, that is a successful session. Any advice-giving should be as objective as possible because the client is the expert of their life and no one should tell the client what they should do as far as specific decisions in their life.

  9. What I enjoy most about being a licensed professional counselor is hearing about the success of my clients! There is nothing that makes me happier than to see my clients succeed and makes their lives better overall.

  10. I enjoy working with my clients with relationship difficulties, as well as self-esteem building, as I have experienced the most success with my clients working about these primary topics.

  11. Even as a virtual counselor, I feel the therapy room is a great place to navigate current daily stresses. I offer counseling services that might be helpful for the client to navigate their daily stresses individually outside of the therapy room as well.
