WITH EVERY COUPLE WE MEET, WE SEEK TO:
-
Build A Safe Relationship
We are non-judgmental and objective. We encourage full honesty and transparency so that you get the most out of your investment.
-
Encourage Self-Reflection
We help clients look inward and be honest with themselves about their individual struggles and contribution to the marital concerns. It is empowering for couples to identify their marital dynamic and have a full, mutual understanding of their relationship.
-
Set Specific Life Goals
Whether it’s being more connected with your partner, communicating more effectively, or repairing past pain, we ask our couples to focus on the future.
-
Empower Them to Make Changes
We provide guidance, strategies and skills to help couples make the changes they have identified. We give them a safe place to dream, plan, and try something new – as well as – a safe place to share disappointment, struggles and frustration when they face obstacles or setbacks.

When do I know that marriage counseling is needed?
Marriage counseling is helpful for any couple at any time in their relationship. Not only is marriage counseling helpful for resolving big issues with a non-biased third party, but It’s also beneficial if you and your spouse are at an impasse, aren’t resolving conflicts, or need to heal from something significant like an affair, abuse, or addiction. However, most couples benefit more from sessions if they attend proactively before significant issues arise. It’s never too late to heal but putting out fires requires ongoing weekly sessions while proactive learning only takes 2-5 visits.

What should I expect from my first marriage counseling session?
Session one is information gathering for the therapist so they know how to conceptualize your situation and provide helpful tools. You can help expedite this process by coming to your visits prepared with a list of topics and questions to discuss with your therapist. Rather than arguing with your spouse in session, the focus is on providing all the professional with all relevant information so they know what homework to assign.
-
Does my insurance cover marriage counseling?
The short answer is it depends on your exact circumstance. There are 3 very specific conditions and requirements that insurance companies demand in order for a marriage counseling session to be billable to insurance. One, the policy must cover the CPT code 90847. Some insurance policies exclude this type of service from the benefits portion. Two, the sessions must focus on treating a credible mental health diagnosis that meets the insurance criteria for medical necessity. It is illegal to bill insurance without a credible diagnosis or make up a diagnosis so the sessions will be “covered”. Lastly, the clinician has to be in network and the client with the active insurance policy must be present at the time of the service. -
I'm skeptical about marriage counseling working. How can I get the most out of my visits?
The truth is you get exactly what you put into your therapy. Clients that come in with an open mind get more out of their sessions and find them more helpful. If you have an open mind and both parties are willing to take accountability, therapy can be very life changing for you. Clients who come in with a resistant disposition or a cynical outlook actually end up blocking the therapeutic process and making the experience ineffective for both parties. As a client you need to be able to take accountability for your own level of active participation in therapy for it to be helpful for you. -
Can marriage counseling work if my spouse doesn't want to take any accountability?
Yes! It is the therapist’s responsibility to help provide a safe environment where each party is held accountable equally. Our therapists strive to maintain professional objectivity and shouldn’t take sides. If you are feeling “ganged up on” in therapy, it’s typically because there is something inside of you that doesn’t want to take full accountability for yourself. Open mindedness is key and the therapist can help you more effectively.
